Legal-search startup Judicata raised $5.8 million in a Series A-2 round of venture funding led by Khosla Ventures and joined by Peter Thiel, the company told VentureWire.The eight-employee startup wants to make legal research on the Internet as easy as a search for a pair of shoes on Zappos.com, said co-founder Blake Masters, an attorney.
Judicata’s niche search technology differs from existing legal research databases, like Westlaw or LexisNexis, Masters said, because it “adds structure to the data” of every case, allowing attorneys and legal researchers to easily tune out what’s irrelevant and to pinpoint “specific points of law.”
